Melissa McElwee is a prospective teacher studying at Appalachian State University where she is pursuing a Bachelors in Secondary History Education. Ms. McElwee hopes to be an educator in Western North Carolina, close to her home of Swannanoa and Asheville. Ms. McElwee gained an interest in history in High School, where she began to study Victorian era customs and became interested in folk lore from the Appalachian region. She also later gained a more narrow interest in 1970s American history, and looks forward to any teaching opportunities that come her way.
